The themes of hope, contentment, and gratitude present in "Ordinary World" are similar to themes found in other Green Day songs, such as "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends." In "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," the narrator is looking back on a past relationship and expressing hope for a better future.
